Vegetable Menagerie
Critters of all sorts appear where you wouldn’t expect.
Often I find this while cooking. (Maybe they’re drawn to the prospect of some tasty and nourishing supper.) Here are some recent visitors to the kitchen while I’ve been in food-prep mode.
Strix Sweetpototos
a sweet potato, parsnip and carrot hued owl
struggles to focus its eyes
often goes down long internet rabbit holes
loves sweets (especially partial to sugar mice)
top flight speed 4 miles per hour (veers to the left as one wing shorter than the other)
Panthera Rubrum Cepa (with cub)
a sleek panther with a red onion coloured coat
grows into its whiskers
excellent athlete
does not have time for your antics (although cubs are very mischievous)
not fussy about cereal as long as it comes with chocolate milk
Draco Pullulant
a very rare Brussels sprout and leek dragon
known to steal ice creams
the largest of the kitchen visitors
not fond of Christmas dinners
can’t touch its elbows
likes to pretend it has a cool persona and not a chronic over-thinker
Lupus Allium
garlic wolf with fearsome teeth sprouted from potatoes
just yawning
sends very thoughtful gifts
still looking for a (non-judgemental) dentist
sometimes fur gets scrappy
always hungry
